I have over 10 years experience in the design and advertising industries. I have a BFA in Communications Design with a concentration in Graphic Design, and an Art History minor from Pratt Institute of the Arts in Brooklyn New York. I recently attained (in 2012) an MFA in Graphic Design from Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, with a focus on typeface design. My thesis project was a typeface designed for the sport of triathlon, named “Tri-type”. Another project from from grad school, a typeface named “weird” is currently in production in conjunction with PSY/OPS Type Foundry in San Francisco and will be available for purchase in summer 2014. My newest venture is the creation of my own design firm, Blue Taco Design, all the while balancing new type design projects and teaching classes at UNLV.
I have worked with clients ranging from small businesses to fortune 500 companies. Some of these include Chase, Reebok, Novo Nordisk, Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Borgata Hotel & Casino, and Evite/Postmark to name a few. My current interests are working on branding projects and designing typefaces, as well as teaching. With experience with a large array of clientele, I bring a diverse knowledge of markets and customer needs and am a highly versatile designer because of this. I have worked with world-class type designers, creative directors, and award-winning agencies and have a robust portfolio of work and insight into the field of graphic design. I bring real-world expertise of ideation, theory, and methods to my design practice and well as to the classroom.
