David Lawrence (Shell)

David Lawrence, a director for Stone Energy Corporation, is a business executive and geologist possessing a diversity of training and practical experience in the energy industry. David Lawrence began preparing for his career as a student at Lawrence University, where he received a bachelor of arts with magna cum laude distinction. Following a period as a university instructor in Arizona and exploring for uranium in Colorado and Utah, he gained acceptance to Yale University, where he received the Dana Fellowship, completed a master of science and PhD in geology and was the recipient of the Orville and Estwing Awards. While a graduate student at Yale, Lawrence worked for the United States Geological Survey on coal-bearing strata in Wyoming.

After earning his PhD, he worked as a researcher and manager for Shell in Houston, Texas, before going on to serve as chief geologist and new play manager for Shell Offshore Incorporated in New Orleans. Most recently, David Lawrence served as Executive Vice President Global Exploration for Royal Dutch Shell based in The Hague, Netherlands and as Executive Vice President Exploration and Commercial for Shell Upstream Americas based in Houston, with responsibilities including exploration, new business development, LNG, and wind energy. He retired from Shell in 2013 after almost 30 years of service including research, exploration and production, finance, strategy, gas and commercial business on six continents.
